It's defiantly a great piece and the good thing is, not a lot of people know about it. Don't believe what they say about 45 HP gains. At the most I would say your boosted GSR should see about 10 WHP. If that. Go pick up a copy of the Jegs catalog it's in every issue. It's called an “exhaust cut-out” and it goes for about 25 bucks. It can be ordered in any diameter exhaust you have and must be welded on. I called Jegs myself and asked about it. I’ll be ordering one soon. The cool part about it is the lever you pull to disconnect your exhaust is in the car. So at the pull of a lever you’re running a open hedder. Than push the lever back and your back to your quiet cat back system.

Yeah it seems like a really cool idea. Only problem is where do you put it? The header bolts up directly to the cat and you want it before the cat. I guess you would have to cut the header and weld it on there. I wonder how much that would be?

    Cool

My straight pipe is somewhat like that. There's an opening half way, but you have to get under the car with a wrench to open and close it.

I only open it at the drag strip. Who say's only the "big boys" can be fucking loud? Hah!

I went to Jegs website and found the item you are talking about. However, it's not 25 bucks, they are asking for $46.99 and it says it come in 2" diameter.

I guess the price has gone up since the last time I checked on it. 2000GSR, you brought up the same question I had. My hedder bolts directly into my cat. Which doesn't leave much room to fit this piece. I wonder if welding it between the collector and the cat would cause my exaust to be pushed back too far. And welding it in after the cat seems to defeat the purpose .

Well, one day I'm gonna buy that thing. Either I'm going to have somebody cut my header to fit that piece in there or I'm gonna cut my cat-back and run it after the cat. I honestly don't think you really need THAT free flowing of an exhaust where you would put it before the cat, that thing would be embarrassingly loud if you did and if you put it after the cat it's still legal (except for maybe the noise). I also think it's cheaper to replace the A section of a catback than it is a header, just incase something goes wrong.
